Your guide to Philly's diverse creative scene, nightlife, music, food & more
This fall it is all about a custom fit for a man. Whether you are going to work or having after work drinks and din din with your honey, the goal is to look as good (well almost as good) as she does.
This season’s color trend reports are saying the hues of grey is where it is. I on the other hand am feeling rebellious and say color is always a must on a man. Right now, I am loving that Saturday morning look. Maroon oversized cardigan with a fitted tee like a Duke & Winston shirt, jeans and some old-school docksiders.
This weekend while shopping for my All About Men TV segment, I stumbled upon some great happenings for men.
With Ryan (my always amazingly dressed digital media assistant) on my arm, we were bound for fun times with the Philly fashion scene as our backdrop.
Check out the video that Ryan did on his flip cam:
Here is what we found in two very fun and stylish neighborhoods:
This is the spot for custom suits! They’ve styled NFL players like Duce Staley and NBA players such as Samuel Dalembert.
Senor owner Mark is down to earth, cool, and is a total recessionisto. He’s all about pairing things that fit you with the right look -- at the right price!
Such a cute find! This shop is a men’s boutique at its best. They are a one stop shop with trendy dinner jackets, blazers with the throwback elbow patches, newsboy caps, and an amazing local line of t-shirts.
Kanye West would have a ball in this store.

Thru October 17
Various Locations
DesignPhiladelphia is the largest design festival of it's kind which brings together over 450 creative thinkers and artists for ten days of design events. There are so many amazing and innovative events to choose from, but here are some of my top picks and insider tips.

Insider Tip: Make sure to stop by this impactful event brought to you by Philly 360 creative ambassador, Rakia Reynolds. Not only can you see amazing creative works, but you can also help make a difference to help Animal Rescue Operations effected by the BP Oil Spill.. And that makes this event that more special.

The Galleries at Moore: Window on Race | 20th Street and the Ben Franklin Parkway
Judith Leiber is widely recognized as a major figure in handbag design, having created more than three thousand different motifs during a career spanning over thirty years. This exhibition features twenty-five designs that highlight the breadth and range of Judith Leiber’s work including examples of early beaded bags from the 1970s to more recent creations from the 1990s. Leiber’s designs transcend objects of utility to become objets d’art placing Leiber in an elite group of designers such as Lalique, Tiffany, and Cartier, creators of high quality products for public consumption that have come to be regarded as art. Free and open to the public.
Insider tip: If you’re a fashionista, i know i don’t have to tell you who Judith Leiber is. She creates incredible art that translates into fashionable and elaborate jeweled clutches and bags. I’m sure you’ve seen them on red carpets with the celebs. Amazing. A must see.

Insider tip : In addition to being an artist, I’m also a graphic designer - so an event like this is exciting to me. I love seeing what it's like behind the scenes of major projects - from seeing the materials used to the process in which is was made. This is that kind of event. Floss Barbers’ Interior Design is crisp, clean and balanced. You may be able to get a sneak peak of one of their current projects, SugarHouse Casino while there!
October 7-17

Philadelphia is home to one legendary sandwich that has visitors, residents and celebrities chiming in on the classic debate – who has the best cheesesteak in town? I decided to do my own taste test at a few famous cheesesteak spots, and I am still undecided! Each place has its own “it” factor.
Ishkabibble’s 337 South Street (3rd and South Streets)
My first stop was Ishkabibble’s. Don’t let the size of this place fool you. Ishkabibble’s has created a loyal following of those who swear by their flavorful cheesesteaks. Whether you prefer steak, chicken or veggie, Ishkabibble’s has the perfect sandwich for you.
Any of these sandwiches can be paired with Ishkabibble’s one-of-a-kind Gremlin drink. What’s a Gremlin, you ask? This insider favorite is a combination of grape juice and lemonade. Check out what hip hop artist, B.o.B. had to say about Ishkabibble’s Gremlin here.
Jim’s Steaks 4th and South Streets
My next stop was Jim’s Steaks, a true Philadelphia landmark. I found Jim’s Steaks to be the most energetic of the bunch with lines of guests wrapping around its front entrance and lively employees catering to their every need. Whether you prefer American or Provolone cheese, fried onions or hot peppers, ketchup or hot sauce with your cheesesteak – there are almost no limits to what the crew at Jim’s Steaks can serve up.
Geno’s Steaks 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue
A steak shop like no other, Geno’s Steaks has created memories for many Philadelphians and has become a rite of passage for those who visit the city in search of the perfect Philadelphia cheesesteak.
I am a huge fan of the Geno’s Steaks cheese fries. Nothing is better than pairing an authentic Philly cheesesteak with a hot order of cheese fries. I can’t stop by Geno’s Steaks without ordering one (or two) serving(s) of cheese fries.
I grab my steak and fries and make my way under the orange neon lights to begin my feast. With no apologies, I dig in – saving the napkin for last, because taking a break between bites would simply be a waste of time.
Pat’s King of Steaks 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue
Pat’s King of Steaks is where I truly became a Philadelphian, because I ate my very first cheesesteak here.
My first trip to Pat’s: I had no idea that there was such a science to ordering a steak sandwich, but I quickly caught on and was ready for the challenge. I reached the front of the line and with no hesitation, I shouted, “Whiz wit!” – meaning Cheese Whiz with fried onions. I had done it. I correctly ordered an authentic Philadelphia cheesesteak from Pat’s, and I have been hooked ever since.
Tony Luke’s Old Philly Style Sandwiches 39 East Oregon Avenue
I lived in Philadelphia for about 5 years before I ever visited Tony Luke’s. I was banking on a swinging through and grabbing my standard “Whiz wit,” but I was astonished at what I found at Tony Luke’s.
The options were endless. I thought that I mastered the art of cheesesteaks in Philly, but Tony Luke’s exposed me to a new world of flavors and options.
These legendary places have me completely convinced that Philly is the place for an unforgettable cheesesteak.
As a Philly 360° Insider, I have spoken with some pretty big names in the entertainment industry who have visited our city – and they all mention the Philadelphia cheesesteak as one of their favorite things about Philly. Watch the videos below to see what the celebs, including B.o.B., Yolanda Adams, and ?uestlove had to say about Philly cheesesteaks in their interviews!
Want to do your own taste test? Don’t limit yourself to just these five places. Philly is full of delicious cheesesteak eateries.
Here are some other top picks:
Dalessandro’s Steaks and Hoagies - 600 Wendover Street
John’s Roast Pork - 14 Snyder Avenue
Campos Deli - 214 Market Street
There are also some higher-end cheesesteaks available:
Continental - 138 Market Street
Four Seasons’ Swann Lounge - 1 Logan Square
Barclay Prime - 237 South 18th Street
Every night from Wednesday, October 6, through Saturday, October 9, it will be going down on the runway at the 23rd Street Armory located at 22 S. 23rd Street for the second annual Philadelphia Fashion Week (PFW). This is another exciting week for Philadelphia as the city will again unveil the creative fashion scene that we all love.
The kick-off night boasts Philadelphia’s localista scene at its best. Local boutiques that we know and cherish will be putting on show stopping performances accompanied by local DJs who will be spinning sets throughout the night. Bus Stop Boutique and Arcadia Boutique will be putting on a sustainable fashion show titled Earthly Beauties.
It’s a school night at the 23rd Street Armory, as we’ll see all of the art stars of local universities and institutes, such as Drexel University, Art Institute, Moore College, University of Delaware, and Philadelphia University showcasing their designs for all to see.
I’ll be there to see Philadelphia’s own Kristin Haskin-Simms who had a beautiful love affair with Project Runway this season.
On Saturday, PFW will close out the night with special DJ performances, an aerialist, and more fashion galore.
Insider tip: There is a Philadelphia Fashion Week app for iPhones!
This year, Fashion Week organizers have launched a new mobile application, PhlFshnWk, to help attendees navigate through the daily shows and events and access timely, making it the first app created for a major, national fashion event.
