Your guide to Philly's diverse creative scene, nightlife, music, food & more
So, you scored tickets to a Philadelphia Phillies game. It's time to grab your friends and plan a day of Phillies activities. I'm talking about a day of baseball, good food and cold beers. Let me introduce you to baseball, Philly style.
Before the game (give yourself at lease a few hours), meet your friends to get some pre-baseball drinking in before you head to the ballpark. First stop, Tavern on Broad in Center City to get the party started right.
Tavern on Broad (or TOB as many folks call it) offers a great lunch and is the ideal restaurant and bar to watch any type of sporting event. So, even if you didn't score tickets, you can always go to TOB for a gamewatch. With over two dozen TVs, TOB doesn’t have a bad seat in the house. Their menu is great and has been created by Philadelphia’s own awarding winning Executive Chef, Terry White. Whether you select their signature Chicken on Broad or their finger-licking Double Double Burger, you can’t go wrong when you order off the menu at Tavern on Broad.
The drink specials at TOB are always affordable. Tavern on Broad has the best beer and cocktail specials in town - perfect for your very own Phillies pep rally! TOB doors open at 11:00am, so you can get there early and mentally prepare for your fun-filled day of partying with the Phils!
200 S. Board Street (Broad and Walnut Streets)
Philadelphia, PA 19102
Insider tip: If you feel like going straight down to the ballpark, you can always get in some tailgating in the parking lots as well. You'll see a lot fans out their grilling, listening to music and playing games.
Philly's public transportation system, SEPTA, has a subway entrance just a few feet from the TOB doors. Talk about convenience. Head down the stairs and jump on the train towards Citizen's Bank Park.
You and your friends will promptly arrive at the corner of Pattison Avenue and Broad Street. As your group makes its way down Pattison, you will begin to feel the energy that builds as game time grows closer.
Once inside, stop to get a photo opp with the newly installed With Love, Philadelphia XOXO 3D Art (pictured above), just inside the Left Field Gate right at the beginning of Ashburn Alley.
Head down to Asburn Alley next, located behind Center Field near the Bullpens. Ashburn Alley has made a name for itself with its food spots--we'll get to the food in a sec--but this area of the ballpark is all about entertainment. Named in honor of Phillies legend Richie Ashburn, Ashburn Alley has some fun that will bring out phanatic in all of us.
Ashburn Alley Spot Checks:
Alley Hour
Check for concession specials offered during the first hour Ashburn Alley is open each game. Specials are posted at the Ashburn Alley and Left Field Gate.
All-Star Walk

Bullpens
Check out the bi-level bullpens and watch pitchers from both teams warm up.
Citizens Bank Games of Baseball
Make sure you play the three free games presented by Citizens Bank - Ring 'Em Up, Run the Bases and Phan Trivia Challenge. Guests may redeem coupons at the Citizens Bank kiosk (also located in Ashburn Alley) for various prizes.
Memory Lane
Located on the back of the batter's eye walls is an illustrated history of Philadelphia baseball, including the Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics and Negro League teams in the city.
Wall of Fame
Bronze plaques of the players enshrined in the Phillies Wall of Fame that started at Veterans Stadium in 1978 are on display in Memory Lane.
New This Year:
New this year to Citizen's Bank Park is the largest HD jumbotron in the National League — 7,372 square feet large to be exact. There's also an “At the Ballpark” feature in the MLB At-Bat app that lets you order ballpark food through your iPhone. Speaking of food...
At Citizens Bank Park, there are so many food options to choose from, and it's hard to pick just one--so don’t! My biggest suggestion is to B.Y.O.A. (Bring You Own Appetite). So, let your impulses run wild as you sample all of the tastes of Philadelphia. From the iconic cheesesteak at Tony Luke's and the have-to-try-it-to-understand-it Schmitter sandwich to the legendary Crabfries at Chickie's and Pete’s, there are some many food options at Citizens Bank Park.
Insider tip: The number one food spot in Citizen's Bank Park is Ashburn Alley. So make sure this is your first food stop when you're in the ballpark if you looking for some good eats.
Here are some of my food picks:
Named in honor of and owned in part by former Phillies outfielder Greg "The Bull" Luzinski, this BBQ spot in Ashburn Alley is serving up some serious southern-style barbeque.
The Heater which is a spicy cheesesteak with jalapeno cheddar and buffalo sauce is Campo's signature Phillies cheesesteak. They are also serving up many more delicious hoagies and sandwiches.
There is no place like Chickie’s and Pete’s! So thankful there is one located right inside Citizens Bank Park in Ashburn Alley. Warning: Be prepared to wait in line for the popular, mouth-watering Crabfries! These fries are well worth the wait, and don't forget to grab a side of cheese with you fries.
If you are planning to attend a game with a large group, McFadden’s Ballpark is a good spot to go for some sit down eats. Connected to to Citizen's Bank Park, they have great party menu options to choose from.
The home of the Schmitter, McNally’s Tavern in Chestnut Hill, has brought their delicious sandwich to the home of the Philadelphia Phillies. No need to take the ride up Kelly Drive to taste this one-of- a-kind sandwich. Guests can now enjoy this massive medley while they watch their favorite team.
Tony Luke's
The iconic Tony Luke’s cheesesteak establishment that you have loved for years can also be found within Citizens Bank Park in Ashburn Alley. No need to leave the stadium in order to get an authentic Philadelphia cheesesteak.

Valentine’s Day has never been one of my favorite holidays. Even now as a happily married woman I can’t say I am truly in love with the occasion—it comes with a few too many expectations and responsibilities. Should I get him a gift or just a card? Should I be romantic or try to play it cool? Decisions, decisions, decisions! But in Philadelphia, you can’t resist the opportunity to celebrate. Whether it is an elegant evening out on the town or a quiet and peaceful one at home with that special someone—the options are endless.
To help you make your Valentine's Day special, I’ve crafted a simple yet perfect way to celebrate cupid’s favorite day.
3 Easy Steps to a Simply Perfect Valentine’s Day in Philadelphia:
Even though this Philadelphia weather has not been ideal for strolling the streets, holding hands with the one you love while walking through Rittenhouse Square is still one of the most romantic things you can do. Remember to take your time and enjoy every moment.
2. Time to dine
Philadelphia is a food-loving city, so make sure to make your reservations in advance. My husband and I love Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse! The ambiance is perfect for a romantic dinner for two. You’ll love the cocktails!
Thankfully, Davio’s takes the guessing out of ordering the ideal meal by offering couples a fixed menu of delicious Valentine’s Day selections. From amazing appetizers to delectable desserts, Davio’s has the perfect menu for a savory Valentine’s Day dinner.
Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse

Philadelphia, PA 19103

More of Davio’s Valentine’s Day offerings: http://www.davios.com/phil/events.php
3. Save your dessert for home
Ask your waiter or waitress to pack your dessert to GO! Though the rest of the evening could be spent at Davio’s, I’m sure your time together could be better spent enjoying one of their signature desserts in the comfort of your own home. Simply end your perfect night enjoying a delicious dessert with that special someone.
There are a number of extravagant things you could do to make your Valentine’s Day special. But, I assure you that this Valentine’s Day date in Philadelphia will be perfect and unforgettable!
Philly's Mitchell & Ness, the famous vintage sportswear company, has opened its new flagship store at 1201 Chestnut Street--and Philly 360 was on the scene!
I was lucky enough to cover this event as a Philly 360 Insider. Sean McKinney, President of Mitchell & Ness stopped by to chat with me about their new store as well as the future of his historic brand.
From the energy of legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff spinning to the enthusiasm of Mayor Nutter and his surprise performance, the opening of the new Mitchell & store was a night to remember-- and lucky for you, we had a camera crew there to cover it.
Check out the video to see Philly's Mayor Michael Nutter rapping while DJ Jazzy Jeff spins!
Mitchell & Ness history:
Having been around for over 100 years, Mitchell & Ness is not only a Philly staple, but it is a sports fan staple. In many cases, it is the only store to offer authentic vintage inspired MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL gear. The store has become a must-stop destination for athletes, musicians and entertainers visiting Philadelphia--and with the opening of this new store, it's sure to even further solidy Mitchell & Ness' standing as a leader in the field. Even some celebrities I've spoken with have mentioned Mitchell & Ness as one of their favorite places, including Michael Bivins.

Philadelphia is home to one legendary sandwich that has visitors, residents and celebrities chiming in on the classic debate – who has the best cheesesteak in town? I decided to do my own taste test at a few famous cheesesteak spots, and I am still undecided! Each place has its own “it” factor.
Ishkabibble’s 337 South Street (3rd and South Streets)
My first stop was Ishkabibble’s. Don’t let the size of this place fool you. Ishkabibble’s has created a loyal following of those who swear by their flavorful cheesesteaks. Whether you prefer steak, chicken or veggie, Ishkabibble’s has the perfect sandwich for you.
Any of these sandwiches can be paired with Ishkabibble’s one-of-a-kind Gremlin drink. What’s a Gremlin, you ask? This insider favorite is a combination of grape juice and lemonade. Check out what hip hop artist, B.o.B. had to say about Ishkabibble’s Gremlin here.
Jim’s Steaks 4th and South Streets
My next stop was Jim’s Steaks, a true Philadelphia landmark. I found Jim’s Steaks to be the most energetic of the bunch with lines of guests wrapping around its front entrance and lively employees catering to their every need. Whether you prefer American or Provolone cheese, fried onions or hot peppers, ketchup or hot sauce with your cheesesteak – there are almost no limits to what the crew at Jim’s Steaks can serve up.
Geno’s Steaks 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue
A steak shop like no other, Geno’s Steaks has created memories for many Philadelphians and has become a rite of passage for those who visit the city in search of the perfect Philadelphia cheesesteak.
I am a huge fan of the Geno’s Steaks cheese fries. Nothing is better than pairing an authentic Philly cheesesteak with a hot order of cheese fries. I can’t stop by Geno’s Steaks without ordering one (or two) serving(s) of cheese fries.
I grab my steak and fries and make my way under the orange neon lights to begin my feast. With no apologies, I dig in – saving the napkin for last, because taking a break between bites would simply be a waste of time.
Pat’s King of Steaks 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue
Pat’s King of Steaks is where I truly became a Philadelphian, because I ate my very first cheesesteak here.
My first trip to Pat’s: I had no idea that there was such a science to ordering a steak sandwich, but I quickly caught on and was ready for the challenge. I reached the front of the line and with no hesitation, I shouted, “Whiz wit!” – meaning Cheese Whiz with fried onions. I had done it. I correctly ordered an authentic Philadelphia cheesesteak from Pat’s, and I have been hooked ever since.
Tony Luke’s Old Philly Style Sandwiches 39 East Oregon Avenue
I lived in Philadelphia for about 5 years before I ever visited Tony Luke’s. I was banking on a swinging through and grabbing my standard “Whiz wit,” but I was astonished at what I found at Tony Luke’s.
The options were endless. I thought that I mastered the art of cheesesteaks in Philly, but Tony Luke’s exposed me to a new world of flavors and options.
These legendary places have me completely convinced that Philly is the place for an unforgettable cheesesteak.
As a Philly 360° Insider, I have spoken with some pretty big names in the entertainment industry who have visited our city – and they all mention the Philadelphia cheesesteak as one of their favorite things about Philly. Watch the videos below to see what the celebs, including B.o.B., Yolanda Adams, and ?uestlove had to say about Philly cheesesteaks in their interviews!
Want to do your own taste test? Don’t limit yourself to just these five places. Philly is full of delicious cheesesteak eateries.
Here are some other top picks:

John’s Roast Pork - 14 Snyder Avenue

2:00 pm – Check In
The ladies check into their hotel rooms and get ready to head to their highly anticipated—and sorely needed—spa appointments.
3:00 pm – Relaxation Time—Ahhh…
After traveling from out-of-state—and working hard all week—the ladies are in need of some TLC. They’ve booked appointments at Spa East, 1040 N. Second Street, in the trendy Northern Liberties neighborhood. Each takes advantage of the Exhale Package service; a combination of a traditional manicure, pedicure, Simply Back massage, Jet Set Face Glow and fifteen-minute sauna session, designed to de-stress and pamper overworked muscles and minds.
5:15 pm – Cake Break
After their ooh-ahh-spa moment, the girlfriends decide to do a bit of exploring in the Piazza at Schmidts, a massive 80,000 square foot open-air plaza featuring artist’s studios, boutiques, restaurants, apartments and office space, a huge stage and 26 by 16-foot next generation, high definition LED screen where neighbors and visitors watch movies, sporting events and engage in plenty of fun, free events. Through the Piazza they go, stopping at one of the best bakeries around, Brown Betty Dessert Boutique on Liberties Walk, where they share homemade cupcakes (the red velvet will make you want to holler!) and refreshing drinks before doing some retail damage.
6:15 pm – Fashion Pit Stop
On the way back from their sweets stop, they take a small detour to Old City and visit Topstitch Boutique at 54 N. 3rd Street. Here, the ladies pick out funky handsewn dresses and corsets, vintage purses and wildly popular Fleather earrings to rock on the town. After giving their wallets a light workout (Philly prices barely make their dollars break a sweat), they cab it back to their hotel rooms and glamify for their fun Philly night out.
7:15 pm – Old City Stroll
The ladies love the Old City neighborhood so much, they go into urban explorer mode and check out Sugarcube, a vintage-meets-new boutique with fabulous shoes; Smak Parlour, one of Philly 360 creative ambassador Marsha Ambrosius’ favorite shops for one-of-a-kind hip and flirty fashions; Vivant Art Collection, a gallery specializing in Haitian art, African masks and Island ceramics; and Scarlett Alley, a one-stop home store that features tea sets, jewelry, candles, makeup and more.

At this bistro-café, they’ll enjoy tasty dishes like sautéed calamari Bolognese, shrimp and lobster spring rolls, grilled yellow fin tuna with eggplant and porcini mushroom chutney and the Rouge burger, made famous by one of the nation’s well-known girlfriends and bestie to Oprah, Gayle King. Delectable dishes and the best people-watching in the city—celebs, athletes, politicos, social circuit regulars—can’t be beat!
Insider’s Tip: If Rouge is full, sashay down the street to Parc, a spacious Parisienne bistro that serves classic French fare in a fun, relaxing environment with equally impressive views of the Square and its denizens.
11:30 pm – Time to SEE and be SEEN!
Just blocks away is G Lounge at 111 South 17th Street, one of the best lounges in Philly to dance, profile and party like a rock star. Bottle service reservations have already been made for the group so the ladies walk can straight to the front of the line and down the stairs for VIP access to the luxe space.
