Your guide to Philly's diverse creative scene, nightlife, music, food & more
Yes that’s his name or at least that’s what he told me when I approached him about his sick style (urban dictionary tutorial – sick here means “cool, great, amazing”). We met yesterday after I noticed his fab hair and killer taste and walked up to him to ask about his fashion sense. As I got closer, I was even more intrigued by the limited edition tee he was rocking.
It turns out Sik is a designer and, along with biz partner Rob Gibson, owns a local tee shirt line called The Addicted Life. Some of the tees are inspired by childhood games like Hungry Hungry Hippos and others are puns and political satire on current issues. After carrying the line in local shops, co-owner Rob decided that he’d open up his own store, currently in the works in West Philly (the same neighborhood that birthed Hollywood heavy hitters Will Smith and director Lee Daniels).
For a dose of Sik’s style, you can visit the shop when it opens but until then, check out the tees and other sick blog posts at www.theaddictedlife.com. It just goes to show you in Philly, you can never sleep on someone’s style that you come across because they may end up being the original creator/ designer. That’s just how we do!
