Your guide to Philly's diverse creative scene, nightlife, music, food & more
The Philly hip hop band brought the party back to Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing for the 4th year in row this past Saturday. The Roots Picnic has become a Philly music staple over the past few years, and The Roots delivered once again.
Twenty acts. Two stages. A crowd of 7,000 concert goers. Eleven hours of non-stop, genre-fusing music.
Highlights included Nas as he performed songs from his debut album, Illmatic, with The Roots backing him up on stage. Black and Yellow rapper Wiz Khalifa took over the stage when he performed songs from his succesful debut album and mixtapes. Best New Artist Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding with The Roots at her side brought a touch of jazz to the stage at this year's Picnic.
Other performers includes Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, rappers Yelawolf and Mac Miller, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and more.
Philly 360° was backstage getting interviews to find out how people are connected to The Roots. Look out for those videos. In the meantime, check out our wrap up video from the Picnic.
