What is Philly 360°®?
Philly 360°®, Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation’s (GPTMC) newest initiative for the African American market spotlights trendsetters—musicians, visual artists, dancers, poets, designers, producers and more—who are in touch with what’s cool, hip and hot in the city and region. These Creative Ambassadors use their social networks to build buzz about Philly as a travel hotspot and encourage a younger, affluent, tech-savvy crowd to visit. Our lead Creative Ambassadors include Grammy-winning hip-hop group The Roots in 2009, Grammy®-winning singer/songwriter Marsha Ambrosius in 2010, DJ and Grammy®-winning producer DJ Jazzy Jeff and Grammy®-nominated songwriters/producers Carvin & Ivan in 2011 and Eagles Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and Grammy®-winning producers Andre Harris and Vidal Davis in 2012.
The program, which officially launched in June 2009, has been effective in reaching new potential visitors through a nontraditional, social media-focused campaign that spotlights Philly’s music scene, boutiques, restaurants, nightlife, cultural events and more. GPTMC developed a Web site, video series, limited-edition book, radio and event partnerships, e-newsletter and social media assets to get our message out. And we’ve successfully fostered collaboration between the African-American creative community and the tourism, arts and culture, government and business communities.
In May 2010, we launched the newest component of Philly 360°®. Visitors to the newly redesigned philly360.com can delve even deeper into the diverse creative arts scene through videos and photos; prominent Philly 360°® social media tools; insider fashion, music, travel and arts news and tips; upcoming events like concerts, special DJ nights and exhibitions; and our Creative Ambassadors’ profiles and Philly favorites. The site sports a sophisticated yet fun design, created by Little Giant Media, and the easy-to-use back-end function, developed by P’unk Avenue, allow us to keep the site updated with the latest news—so people can check back every day for their Philly 360°® scoop.
