Three Decades of Dining in Philadelphia

In the last three decades Philadelphia has become firmly established as a foodie destination, with star chefs, celebrity restaurateurs, and mom and pop BYOBs attracting national praise and recognition for the city's dining scene. The Philadelphia History Museum at the Atwater Kent explores this restaurant renaissance with a special event, Three Decades of Dining in Philadelphia: the 80s, 90s and 00s.

Moderated by Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Michael Klein, this thought-provoking discussion will feature a panel of Philly's top restaurateurs: Jack McDavid of Jack's Firehouse; Ellen Yin of Fork and Fork:etc;and Steven Cook of Xochitl, Zahav, Percy Street BBQ, and formerly Marigold Kitchen.

Admission is free to Philadelphia History Museum members and just $5 for the general public at Reading Terminal Market, 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, 5/20.

Celebrating its 40th Anniversary Season, the Philadelphia Dance Company—lovingly referred to as Philadanco—was founded by the indomitable Joan Myers Brown, who has worked to ensure dancers of color receive equal opportunity to work in a professional company.  Philadanco is known for its high-energy performances, skilled dancers and dedication for preserving African-American traditions in dance.

Radio One Music & Entertainment Conference

PHILLY 360° EVENT

The third annual Radio One Music & Entertainment Conference is coming back to Philly with a star-studded lineup of celebrities and workshops, all under one roof. This year’s headliner is none other than global producer, rapper and entertainment executive Jermaine Dupri.

And the conference is so jam-packed with star power that it’s been moved from its previous digs to the Pennsylvania Convention Center to accommodate the masses. Beyond Bayard Exhibition

A new exhibition at the William Way Center, Beyond Bayard tells stories from the Black gay and lesbian community from a number of inspirational leaders and community organizations. The exhibition paints a broader picture of the black social scene through an examination of bars, social groups and local press. Rare documents, magazines, personal photographs, and ephemera from the John J. Wilcox, Jr. Library and Archive make up the majority of the content of the exhibition which is supplemented by personal items from community members.
