Here's another chance to experience the history and legacy of Philadelphia and the nation's black jazz legacy, told through the eyes of the legendary, Joan Myers Brown, Founder and Artistic Director of PHILADANCO. The subject of the newly released book, Joan Myers Brown & the Audacious Hope of the Black Ballerina: A Biohistory of American Performance written by scholar Brenda Dixon Gottschild, Brown reflects on the hardships and advances of African American dancers in the 20th and 21st century.
This conversation will be moderated by the author and is sponsored by local arts and civic collaborative, The Brothers' Network.

Join Art Sanctuary as they present a community performance of the poignant and powerful musical journey, Can You Hear Hear God Crying? written by internationally acclaimed musician and composer, Hannibal Lokumbe. Through the fusion of West African prayers, songs and rhythms expressed through gospel, jazz and chamber music, Lokumbe explores Lokumbe explores our legacy and his own life through the lens of heritage, slavery and what he refers to as mankind's "Door of No Return".
For this fantastic night of music, Lokumbe will be joined by internationally renown percussionist Mogauwane Maloele, Soprano soloist Valerie Gay, students from the Camden Creative Arts High School and Kensington CAPA High School, and other select musicians.
