Why did you choose Warmdaddy’s as one of your favorite places in Philly?
I started going to Warmdaddy’s because it was the chill spot. You went to Warmdaddy’s like, “Who singing tonight?” “What’s going on?”
Food is always wonderful at Warmdaddy’s. I never had a dish at Warmdaddy’s that I did not like. When I come to Warmdaddy’s, I always eating comfort food. It doesn’t matter when I come, the first thing I get is my cornbread.
The music that I typically hear at Warmdaddy’s, it’s an eclectic mix of R&B, soul and of mainstream music.
There's always a good time to be had at Warmdaddy's. There's always great food to eat, and you never know what you’ll encounter when you go there.
You're no stranger to the stage at Warmdaddy's.
Performing on the stage at Warmdaddy’s has been a learning experience for me. I say that because although I have been very blessed and fortunate to have the opportunity to perform on many stages, coming home is always, always different. It's so different because you have friends, you have family, and there is a different critique as oppposed to people who don’t know you.
Warmdaddy's was a home for me. They always welcomed me to perform. No matter what I went for, whether I was going there to sing, or whether I was going there to eat - or if I just wanted to chill and stop by. It didn’t matter. Whenever I came, I was always welcomed. So it always made me feel good.
You also love another Philly soul food spot - Ms. Tootsie's Restaurant Bar Lounge.
There is so much about Ms. Tootsies that I could tell you, but I won't take up too much of your time. What I will say is that every room in which you walk, there's a different atmosphere. That's why I like Ms. Tootsie's.
And, the food is fabulous.
This room right here [the R&B Room] is my absolute favorite. These are all of my friends [in the pictures on the walls] that I've done shows with, I've worked with, or just kicked it with or just hung with. From Jeff Bradshaw. You have India [Arie] who's a Philly favorite. You have Marsha and Natalie [of Floetry] who came to Philly. Kindred [the Family Soul].
So, we talked about food and music. But, let's talk about fashion. Where do you go to shop in Philly?
Kevyn Michael Boutique. What I want you to know is that any moment in time, any given day, you can come in here and find anything that you want, need or would just like to have.
Come and meet the owner of the establishment. How many establishments do you get to go to do that - and find something that you like and just have to have? Not many.
